Training

Our Centre for Palliative Learning is a QCTO accredited training and exam centre where we offer various courses in Home Based Care and Palliative Care.  Understanding palliative care and training has a dramatic impact of the quality of life for patients with an active, progressive and far advanced disease.

The first group of students at our centre were hosted in 2018 and they successfully completed the “Introduction to Palliative Care” course.

In September 2019 we rolled out the newly registered Home-Based Personal Care Assistant (NQF2 Qualification). The first group of students registered through the YES programme and successfully completed the training that involved theory, practical training in a simulated environment, followed by a further 6 months training in the workplace.

Another group of students enrolled in 2021 and went through the same training processes. Both groups have now written the final exam “External Integrated Summative Assessment” (EISA) and if successful, will be issued with their QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) qualification.

The establishment of our Centre for Palliative Learning (CPL) is in line with our vision of becoming a 5-star hospice. Palliative care is fast becoming an integral part of the health system and expert training will therefore be required.
